November Neutrals: Modern Workwear for Winter

Does the idea of getting dressed for work excite you? Well newsflash…it should! I know, I know–work is notttt fun sometimes–BUT that doesn’t mean we have to compromise our outfits. Plus, I have it on good authority that a fresh outfit will ALWAYS make you feel better–even if it is something for work.

I know everyone’s job situation is different AND work “dress code” can be different for everyone, but I decided to put together some inspiring looks that are 2023-2024 modern approved, work great for most business casual office settings, and could even be styled for an after dark affair!! Introducing: November Neutrals. Having neutral colored outfits create a capsule wardrobe that can easily shift from day to night. For all my WFH or WFYLCS (working from your local coffee shop) girlies–don’t worry these looks can still work as great pieces in your wardrobe.

I’ve pulled together some neutral pieces that can be easily mix & matched with each other and follow that basic-but-still-super-chic-modern-working-gal look! AND since it’s November, let’s keep this fall/winter themed with some black Friday DEALS thrown in. SOOO what are we waiting for? Let’s dive right in!!

Tops

We all know it—the white button down and black trousers combo. It’s the first thing to come to mind when we hear ‘women’s work wear’. BUT NO MORE! Yes, a white button down can be a power combo and everyone needs a good, crisp white top in their wardrobe—BUT COME ON, what are some other styles we can go for? We want to be both chic and warm at the same time. Our goal is to strike the ideal balance of sophistications and stylishness that can be replicated and worn in multiple different ways!

I put together some tops that everyone "should have” in their work wardrobe. I say “should have” because OF COURSE do what you want and live your fashion dreams—these are just some foundational selections that help build a dependable neutral capsule wardrobe!! We’ve got stripes, basic long-sleeved tops with sqaure necks, and all kinds of textures—I mean look at that velvet and satin shine!

Sweaters

No winter work wardrobe is complete without at least ONE dependable sweater—especially ones that can be worn year after year while holding up and staying in fashion! A good capsule rule of thumb gives you five solid colors to consider for sweaters is — navy, ecru, khaki, blue, and green — with two striped options. There are so many options to choose from; pullovers, turtlenecks, cardigans, and of course the FUN sweaters. To help narrow down your options I’ve got some tried and true picks—with a simple sweater dress at the end!

Pants

We all have a section of our closets dedicated to them: working trousers. ~cue incoming movie horror scream~ BECAUSE why are they always uncomfy?? WELL NOT ANYMORE. I’m here to redefine business pants.

They should symbolize, “I mean business” in a way that jeans never can and instantly elevate any t-shirt. Add a matching blazer and they become corporate-core. WELL even though there may not be a shortage of work pants out there, it can be hard find a pair that you wont immediately want to rip off after the workday AND make you feel even better about your 9-5. Luckily, I found a few pairs of pants that are both comfortable and cute! Plus, I added in a chic skirt and a leather option. Work pants WILL be the next fashion craze!

Shoes

Work shoes can be hard to decided on. You might work at a more modern office that allows a crisp-nicer-esque sneaker or in a more prestigious environment that leans more towards a boot or a heel. Either way, I have some looks that would work for almost any occasion. But first lets talk style tips: square-toed boots are the move, they can be knee-high or cut right at the ankle. You can have a pointy toe—but not round. I know—I know, but I am just here to tell the trends—not enforce them lovelies. We can be moms that know trends!! But ultimately do what makes you happy.

When it comes to wearing sneakers to work, it may be highly dependent on what kind of day you’re having, such as—who you’re meeting with, and more. You may want to keep a pair of neutral flats or heels in your office just in case! In the end, you want to go for something neutral that can be easily elevated, like a plain white shoe or a beige. Remember: Neutrals!!!

Blazers & Overcoats

I don’t know about you–but when I hear “work outfit” I think of blazers and power-suits. I think nothing elevates an outfit more than a proper blazer or overcoat. It simply tops off the off your outfit. This is the best way to create a seamless finish to your outfit. This includes overcoats, oversized blazers, a shacket, and your classic blazer that can be worn in two different ways.

That’s it Ladies

Well, that’s a wrap! We’ve covered all the main neutrals needed for your workplace “capsule wardrobe”. If you’re afraid I’m shunning off color—DO NOT WORRY—I love color sooo much. Most fashionistas in the industry have just found that its easier to integrate color once you have a good neutral foundation. I think that mixing and matching to build a wardrobe is one of the best parts about building outfits. Plus, it elongates the amount of wear most of your pieces have.

As long as something makes you feel fabulous, it doesn’t matter what you wear or put in your wardrobe. I am always a proponent for wearing what makes you happy! Also, not sure if you noticed but Old Navy stole the show with this blog. Their Black Friday Sales are out of this world—especially around the Holidays. I know many ladies who shop at Old Navy in search of a high-end look for less. PLUS they have body affirming sizes for petites and plus sizes. I love that. <3

Thank you so much for all your support. I couldn’t do this without YOU!! Love you all & happy shopping.
