From Summer Sun to Fall Fun: Style Tips for the Season Shift
Happy September Everyone! Football is back, we’ve adjusted to school schedules, and now that cooler weather is creeping around the corner again. The days are getting shorter and the leaves are slowly changing to those gorgeous fall colors! I’m back this month with some simple, budget friendly ways to transition your closets and wardrobes from hot summer sun to chilly fall days. From layers, to fabrics, patterns and colors- I’m hoping I’ll get your wheels turning with what you can do with your existing closet! Let’s dive in!
Embrace Layers
With the back and forth temperature changes of fall, chilly mornings and evenings and sometimes warmer afternoons- layers are your best friend for fall. Easy to add on when cold and take off when hot they also add some dimension to your outfit and offer an immense amount of variety to your outfit options. My personal rule for layers is start thin and add the heavier layers. Find some nice, basic thinner “base layers” - shirts, lighter weight sweaters and cardigans and build from there with heavier sweaters, jackets, pullovers- whatever you want. Layers keep the options endless due to all the different combinations that are possible! Some nice layers to have on hand include lightweight jackets, sweaters and cardigans!
Transition your summer pieces
I’m not sure about y’all but where I live, the month will say fall- but the weather will still say summer. Thankfully there are some ways we can reuse summer clothing items to help us smoothly transition from season to season rather than jump straight into sweater weather.
Summer Dresses can be used to transition your wardrobe between seasons. Some simple ways to give the fall spice to a summer dress is to add a jean jacket, or to add any sort of over the shoulder coverage. I’ve seen girls loosely tie a sweatshirt over their shoulders recently and it is such a simple way to add some warmth to an outfit.
Along with Summer Dresses, longer summer skirts and shorts can be utilized to blend the seasons. Think those maxi skirts in our closets with a cute top and jean jacket, as well as linen shorts with some warmer layers up top and some sneakers. We can look cute and comfy at the same time! I’ve compiled some looks I love into a little mood board below!
Incorporate fall colors
Incorporating fall color palettes is the easiest way to transition your closet from summer to fall. Work on finding deep greens and oranges, as well as darker purples, blues and warm whites/creams. Browns and warmer tans also help bring in the fall vibes. Some simple ways to do this include painting nails, and choosing make up to match the season.
Accessorize for the season
Once the weather actually starts getting cooler and staying cooler, I start slowly integrating beanies and hats into the mix as well as chunky jewelry. I also slowly start transitioning my straw summer bags to leather and cross body options. These are tiny touches that make a difference and are small enough tweaks that you don’t necessarily have to break the bank!
Seasonal Fabrics and Patterns
Lastly, tweaking those fabrics and patterns are such an easy way to transition the closet! Aim for the heavier looking fabrics: tweed, wool and flannels to really tie in those fall feels. These fabrics alongside the fall colors will really make a difference. Patterns such as plaid, animal print, floral (in fall colors) , cable knit textures and checkered patterns really bring the fall spirit alive! Personally I’ve been loving the checkers going on lately! I made another mood board of some patterns and textures that work for our summer to fall transition!
To wrap it up…
Well Ladies! This is what I’ve got! Hopefully this gets some ideas in your head and that you can find some similar items in your closet that will do the trick. I think that fall is a season to stock up on staples, simple basic items that you can mix and match with all different layers and patterns. I hope you get to slow down, spend time outside and enjoy the leaves changing. Before we know it we’ll be pulling out the Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations! Stay tuned for next month article!
