Accessorizing 101: Elevate Your Fall Outfits with Trending Accessories

Ahh Fall, it’s everyone's favorite time of the year. I mean, pumpkin spice anything and everything, a cool breeze in the air each morning and, of course, the excuse to completely buy a brand new wardrobe! I mean…who wouldn’t love this season? Well, if you're like me, and open your closet the moment it dips below 80 degrees looking for the latest and greatest in fall fashion–then you might get disappointed. No ladies, it’s not because I have a bad wardrobe. Personally, I love all my clothes in some little (or big) way, but ultimately each and every year I want that fresh, new addition that will: 1. Help me reuse older pieces by adding a bit of flare and 2. Make me feel GOOD and ready to rock my OOTD.

That’s right lovelies. Today we’re going to talk about fun and hot new accessory trends for Fall 2023.

Scarves

Over Sized-Scarves

Let’s start with everyone’s favorites: scarves! There is undoubtedly nothing better than the feeling of a warm, cozy scarf around your neck to fight off the chill. PLUS, sometimes they can double as a small blanket. Chunky, oversized scarves are IN this season! Choose a neutral color that could be paired with any outfit, or make it a statement piece! Either way–you're going to be comfy & cute.

Bandanas

Want something lighter? Or just want to show off your inner western/coastal girl style? Bandanas are a fantastic way to add a POP of color to a plain tee, a bag or even spice up your hairstyle. Well, you’re in luck, Madewell is known for their great selection of headscarves!

Jewelry

Chunky Earrings

It’s no secret that statement earrings have been back for a while now. Slap a pair of chunky earrings on top of any fall outfit and you’ve instantly elevated it in a modern, not-totally-boring way. Just like with most things–Madewell is great at balancing new fashion trends with timeless pieces, making them a comfortable choice for ALL ages!

Mixing Metals

This just in! Having a hard time choosing between gold and silver? Well mixing metals is IN. I know–I know….what? How does that even work? Well, my information comes straight from the Fall 2023 runway AND is backed up on about every other fashion trends article I could find. Still don’t believe me? Well, Miss Swift herself sported the mix-matched look recently at the 2023 VMAs—and she chose to do it for both the awards ceremony AND the after party. Regardless of what you think, every girl out there considers Taylor a style icon and the unofficial queen of fall…I mean I’m happily married, but I still love to scream All Too Well as soon as the temperature drops.

Ear Cuffs

If you look close enough, you might be able to spot her cute little ear cuff. Turns out those are coming back too!! Which, honestly, is a relief–I’m not running to get any new piercings y’all! But, if I’m feeling 22 one day, it’s a great low-stakes trend that lets me explore my lovely lobes without having to fully commit.

Pearls

If you still need more options for jewelry (believe me, who doesn't), pearls are in girls! Time to raid your mothers (or grandmothers) closet because pearls are about to be even more popular than they have ever been before.

Top-Handle Bags

Top-handle bags are here and posh as ever. There are sooo many reasons to love this style! First off, it’s always chic. It doesn't matter what shape, style or color–a bag with a little top-handle immediately screams: I live on the Upper East Side and I am the moment. The second best…it doesn't have to be Designer! So let go of your stress ladies. Close the Dior or Louis Vuitton page on your phone you’ve been pining over and open up Walmart instead.

Oversized bags—finally, we don’t have to carry half of our things between each finger anymore!
Fuzzy bags—if you’re looking for warmth…maybe snuggle your bag? Faux fur and shearling are rising to the top!
Novelty bags—you know how we used to make fun of purses shaped like inanimate objects? …well…I hate to break it to you, but out-of-the-box—conversation starting bags are the new thing. No worries, it’s a great way to let your personality shine…like really, really bright.

Shoes

Ballet Flats

“Barbie Mania” has brought a new wave of sweet little accents to the fashion world. As we head into fall, Ballet Flats and Mary Janes are making a super sweet comeback...and by that I mean they are kinda nonnegotiable! Wrap those feet up in some dainty bows (which are also on the rise), OR you could grab another timeless closed toe design with a buckle strap.

Combat Boots

IDK about you, BUT I’m sooo grateful that combat boots never went out of fashion! Grunge is alive and well ladies. This quintessential footwear alway has to make an appearance each year. They give me that healthy amount of edge–PLUS they are so easy to add to any outfit! Perfect for pumpkin picking if you ask me ;)

Some more shoe trends are:

Knee high boots—don’t be afraid to go (thigh) high!
Cowboy boots—there’s a new sheriff in town…
Kitten heels—when in doubt, go pointier.
