spring break packing strategy
Spring break is right around the corner, so I thought maybe a “spring break how to pack” post might be in order.
(We are currently on a “work” trip for John, if by “work” you mean play golf and call it a business meeting. It's fine though, because I have big plans to go “work” at the spa. And possibly “work” on my tan.)
At any rate, we will arrive home just in time for AG to actually begin her spring break. This is known as POOR PARENTAL PLANNING. And because we will be super jet-lagged, AG’s spring break will likely involve helping me do 37 loads of laundry, and many naps. She’ll be the envy of all her classmates, no doubt.
This is the packing strategy I used to employ:
1. Find the biggest suitcase possible.
2. Take at least 36 potential outfit options, plus every single bathing suit you own.
3. Make sure and add your heaviest shoes, and bonus points for more than 5 pair.
4. Pack 3 carry-ons, and convince your husband to use one of them as his “man-purse.”
5. Call it a man-purse LOUDLY and OFTEN in the airport security line. He will enjoy this.
At any rate, I have matured in my packing strategies. Now I lay out ALL of my clothes, shoes and accessories, and then play around with outfit options. Sometimes, I even take photos, because I am a giant OCD nerd, who possesses zero chill.
As I packed for Hawaii, I thought, HEY! Maybe I can share my nerdy packing ways, and it might actually help or inspire some of you with YOUR spring breaking. (Which hopefully involves more than napping and laundry. And let's be honest. It's mainly just laundry.)
First up, the bottoms. Here’s the starting lineup.
Next, I’ve got the tops to mix and match. I heard somewhere that when packing, you should take the number of days you are traveling and bring HALF that many bottoms. Then, DOUBLE that many tops. And when I say, I heard it somewhere, it is also possible that I heard it from the voices in mind.
On to the SHOES. My favorite part, if I’m being honest.
Finally, here’s a shot of my accessories. Y’all, no joke, just taking the time to lay this stuff out decreased my anxiety by 80%. It also coincidentally decreased the weight of my suitcase by approximately 20 lbs.
Now, here are a few ways I mixed and matched my outfits….clearly it’s possible that I may wake up and think, oh my white jeans are now dead to me. And that’s okay—just take 1 or 2 alternates (your b-team), and you’ll be fine.
Whether you’re going somewhere fun, or just praying for it to end going to the park, have a great Spring Break.
Until next time,
